Selective Desaturation

Selective desaturation is popular with new photographer. If you're new to Photoshop, here's a quick technique to selectively desaturate a photo.  Below is a summary of steps from the video above.

  1. Create a new Black & White adjustment layer (Windows > Adjustments > Black & White)
  2. Use the Brush Tool (B) and paint black on the White Mask of the new Black & White adjustment layer
  3. If you want to view only the Mask, press and hold down Option (Alt) then click on the Mask
  4. If you make a mistake painting outside of the desire area, switch the paint from black to white
